Our host website DriftMine.com provides a detailed and convenient list of Bay Area clubs (along with their current links), as well as other information and links of interest to Bay Area mineral collecting, lapidary, and earth sciences enthusiasts -- including field trip opportunities such as field collecting locations, and gem and mineral exhibits.
Bill Schaub has established a chat room on Yahoo for Northern California rockhounds (NorCal-Rocks), patterned after a similar, long-standing Southern California effort (LA-Rocks).
SGMS is incredibly lucky to have the western regional headquarters of the US Geological Survey practically in our back yard, in Menlo Park. The USGS offers a monthly evening public lecture which is free and well worth attending. Lectures are typically given at 7PM on the last Thursday of the month, but check their web page for specific dates and times.
Club members and others may wish to look into attending events (monthly lectures and occasional field trips) sponsored by the Peninsula Geological Society.
