Classes accommodate every level of experience in the lapidary arts from beginners to advanced, from 10 years of age and up.
Classes are currently offered in four time slots each week, for 10 weeks at a time, several times each year. Our lead instructor is very qualified, with over 30 years of experience in lapidary instruction.
| Tuesday Night (experienced only) | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM |
| Wednesday Night | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM |
| Thursday Morning | 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon |
| Thursday Night | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM |
Please inquire concerning space availability and which class may the best match for your interests and skill level. It is not necessary to be a member of SGMS or a resident of Menlo Park to join a class, however SGMS members do receive a $5 discount on fees (now $45 per 10-week session for non-members). Don't worry if you're just a beginner! The basics are readily learned and it's not unusual for someone to completely cut, grind and polish a nice cabochon in their first session. Take a look at examples of the craftsmanship of the 2005-06 classes, as displayed at the 2006 SGMS Annual Show.
There are four sessions of the above classes each year. 2010 dates are as follows:
| Session 1 | January 6 to March 11 |
| Session 2 | April 1 to June 3 |
| Session 3 | June 23 to August 26 |
| Session 4 | September 22 to November 24 |
