Drift Mining is a method of accessing valuable geological material by digging into a seam where it is exposed on the side of a hill.

Drift mining is an appropriate metaphor for the purpose and function of this web site, which seeks to expose helpful mineralogical and related internet-based information to the public in a way which facilitates easy and intuitive 'mining'.

More specifically, DriftMine.com is a hobbyist site dedicated to two key goals:

1) Providing an ad-free web presence, at no cost, to select organizations, businesses, and individuals who are active in the San Francisco Bay Area mineral collecting, lapidary, and earth sciences community; and

2) Offering other useful and current information, news, and internet links of particular interest to SF area 'rock and gem' devotees.

This site was launched in September 2006, and will be evolving and growing over time, so be sure to check back regularly for the latest features and information.
